KH Webb was custom designing a residential home in Vail CO. Their clients are avid outdoors people, and enjoyed the year round recreating available in the Vail Valley. The architect wanted to incorporate a custom trail map into their dedicated ski room. The map needed to feature an expansive area, including Vail Mountain’s ski runs, and local hiking trails.

Felton Library Discovery Park features a section focused on local watershed activity to educate its audience on the importance of water in the Santa Cruz Area. The landscape architect specified that a 3D map be built that visualized how water flows throughout the community. Participants would engage with the San Lorenzo 3D Watershed Map by pouring water directly onto its surface, then watch as the water flows towards the ocean. The landscape architect’s design also specified that this interactive map be displayed outside, uncovered, and in direct sun so the material needed to be resilient.

The Eagle Valley Land Trust wanted to honor a long time member of their efforts by creating a new award called the Steinberg Conservation Leadership Award. This 3d relief award needed to incorporate GIS data, high resolution imagery, and parcel outlines that the Land Trust has so far conserved in their efforts. The final product was meant to be displayed on a desk or mount to a wall.

A private client was looking for a bespoke center piece to have in their living room that enhanced their love of skiing and understanding of the terrain. Vail Mountain is a dense tapestry of ski runs and back bowls, so it was clear that the map needed to have three dimensionality. The family wanted to gather around this at the end of a ski day, so we had the opportunity to play with size and scale.

James Madison University approached LGM to develop a historically accurate representation of the famous Montpelier James Madison Estate. This model was meant to replicate the historic preservation and restoration processes that the main home and outlying buildings had been going through. Details like shingle, brick, and cladding were to be represented at scale.
